2010 FOWLFEST ANNOUNCEMENT AND DIRECTONS:
WHEN? August 14 from 12 noon until 3:30 p.m. Rain date is August 15, 12-3:30.
WHERE? In the back yard of Jim Locke, W6NRJ, Address: 15301 Turkey Foot Road, Darnestown, MD 20878 (Official Post Office address is Gaithersburg, MD for your GPS.)
Our GPS says Latitude 39 degrees 6-23 N and Longitude 77 degrees 17-27 W.
(Darnestown is an unincorporated area of Montgomery County, MD situated between Germantown and North Potomac and two miles from the Quince Orchard section of Gaithersburg. Darnestown is bisected by MD State Route 28 and is roughly half way between Rockville and Poolesville.)
DIRECTIONS:
From Northern VA or the eastern suburbs…
* After crossing the American Legion Bridge from VA you will want to stay left and bear toward Fredrick off the beltway onto the I270 Spur.
* From the East on the Beltway, follow the sign toward Frederick and the Spur.
* As you approach Montrose Road I would advise navigating into the interior (local) lanes and stay in the local lanes a few miles all the way to the Route 28 Darnestown/Rockville exit 6B. At this point you are approximately 8 miles from my house.
* Follow Route 28W. In 6 miles you will pass the intersection of Quince Orchard Road (Rt. 124). McDonald’s and a Shell station are on your left at that point.
* Continue on Rt. 28 (Darnestown Road) for two more miles. WATCH OUT FOR THE CAMERA SPEED TRAP (POSTED 30 MPH) AS YOU APPROACH TURKEY FOOT ROAD.
* Turn right on Turkey Foot Road and go up the hill to turn right at the second cul-de-sac, Turkey Run Court. My house is on the corner. Park on the cul-de-sac only. Overflow parking will be on the first cul-de-sac you pass, Turkey Foot Court. From the overflow parking walk one block. Please do not park on Turkey Foot Road as it has the most two-way traffic in our development.
From Leesburg, VA area…
You may either take White’s Ferry and White’s Ferry Road to Rt. 28 to Darnestown or go via Point-of-Rocks to Rt. 28. WATCH OUT FOR THE CAMERA SPEED TRAP COMING INTO DARNESTOWN FROM THE WEST ALSO. Turkey Foot Road is ¼ mile after you pass Route 112 (Seneca Road) at Darnestown Village with Harris Teeter on your left and a Shell station on your right. Turn left onto Turkey Foot Road.
From Frederick on I270 South…
* Exit Germantown, Route 118 West (watch for 30 MPH speed camera)
* In 6 miles turn left onto Route 28 East (Darnestown Road), (watch for another 30 MPH speed camera)
* In one mile turn left onto Turkey Foot Road and at 2nd cul-de-sac turn right onto Turkey Run court.
Or alternate picturesque route for countryside viewing…
I 270 South,
Exit onto route 85 South (85 ends and becomes Route 28 East).
Go approximately 30 miles (watch for 30 MPH speed camera near Darnestown Park),
After you pass route 118 (Germantown Road) turn left in one mile onto Turkey Foot Road,
At 2nd cul-de-sac turn right onto Turkey Run court.
WHAT TO BRING…IMPORTANT !! Bring a side DISH AND SERVING UTENSIL to complement the provided grilled chicken AND BRING A LAWN CHAIR. I have NO TABLES to sit at for eating. (You may want to bring a TV tray also.) Soft drinks and bottled water will be provided, but not beer this year. So BYO-BEER for the ice chests which will be provided. Paper plates and plastic ware is provided. Eating will be in the shaded area of the lawn.
